22 Jun Dr Terrence Scamp and Esteem Medi Spa Welcome Dr Mark Magnusson.
‘‘I’m very excited to announce that after more than 20 years of solo practice I’m shortly to be joined by Dr Mark Magnusson.
Dr Mark is a fully qualified specialist Plastic Surgeon who has been in practice in Toowoomba since 2000.
He is one of the more active members of the Plastic Surgery community and is currently the President of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
Like myself he has a strong interest in non-surgical facial rejuvenation and has been a convenor of our non-surgical symposium for several years now. This meeting is of outstanding quality and that is due in no small part to Dr Mark’s hard work.
He also lectures on breast implant surgery and in multiple anatomy workshops.
Whilst we share an interest in facial rejuvenation procedures and cosmetic breast surgery, Dr Magnusson will bring his extensive experience in body contouring surgery to Esteem. This field involves corrections of problems after massive weight loss or pregnancy. It includes such procedures as body lifts and thigh reductions. Liposuction and fat grafting are also used to enhance the result.
Dr Magnusson will also bring expertise in female genital rejuvenation surgery to Esteem.
Dr Magnusson is very much a people person and I’m sure that patients at Esteem will find him easy to communicate with and relate to.
He brings with him to the Gold Coast his lovely wife Janet and his two youngest children. Settling on the Gold Coast will let him re-acquaint himself with his strong interest in water sports including surfing and fishing. From my own personal point of view, I look forward to his company as not only a very competent member of the Plastic Surgery community but a long-standing friend.” – DR TERRENCE SCAMP
DR MARK MAGNUSSON describes the appeal of a career in plastic surgery as “a natural fit” for his talent in drawing and art growing up.
“I always had an artistic and creative bent. Plastic surgery requires those skills. The other aspect is healing and health. Surgery can make a massive difference in people’s lives.”
Dr Magnusson has been in the industry for 17 years, and running his own practice in Toowoomba for 16 years, working with patients from the region, Brisbane, NSW and further afield, mostly by client word of mouth and professional referral.
“I have different interests compared to Dr Scamp. Our skills and services are complementary.”
Dr Magnusson specialises in body contouring and surgery after massive weight loss, such as the classic “Mummy Makeover” – breast and tummy surgery, body lift, arm and thigh reduction, as well as revision breast implant surgery, replacement or addressing botched jobs.
While these procedures may be well known, what is not so publicised are the benefits to women’s (and in some cases, men’s) health after such operations.
“Research shows one-third of women develop back pain during pregnancy, many of those experiencing it as an ongoing constant part of life. Back pain and urinary frequency can be improved as a result of a tummy tuck. In a study of 200 women, 90% showed an improvement in back pain and 75% experienced an improvement in urinary frequency. These are just a few of the unrecognised benefits of a well-performed tummy tuck.”
In some cases, Dr Magnusson will combine procedures with liposuction around the flank, recontouring the waist, hips and back, and fat grafting into the buttocks to reshape it.
Then there’s the female genital rejuvenation surgery, still with taboo surrounding it, but something Dr Magnusson has performed for many years and is seeing a rise in awareness.
“Women who have difficulty in that area are often not aware that something can be done about it. In the US, where they keep good figures on operations, it’s an operation that is becoming more and more popular.”
As Dr Magnusson asserts, “It truly does make a difference if well-performed and for the right reasons”.
“It is scientifically proven to benefit sexually in terms of sensation, self-confidence, women report feeling more comfortable when exercising. So there are a variety of physical and psychological benefits.”
Moving to the Gold Coast, Dr Magnusson says he is motivated by living and working close to the beach, and the new ground professionally and personally that move will bring.
“Dr Scamp has been a friend and colleague for a long time. I am looking forward to working with him. I grew up surfing and enjoying the Gold Coast. I am really looking forward to being close to the water.”
