13 Feb Tackle FUPA and Get Your Pre-Pregnancy Figure Back With a Mummy Makeover
After undergoing pregnancy and childbirth, it is natural for women to see changes in their body and gain weight in areas such as the thighs, abdomen and buttocks amongst other areas. Mums also see a difference in their breasts as they enlarge and swell, especially if they breastfed their babies, which can soon sag as the fatty tissue shifts over time.
This leaves women with a body that appears far different from before pregnancy, which can negatively effect body confidence, leading to potential intimacy issues. To combat this, many women seek a consultation with Dr Terrence Scamp at our cosmetic surgery on the Gold Coast to discuss one of the procedures that make up what has become known as a mummy makeover.
Two of the most common procedures sought out by mothers are tummy tucks and liposuction to tackle pockets of fat on the abdomen and lower back amongst other areas, as well as a FUPA (Fatty Upper Pubic Area) (1). During a tummy tuck, an incision is made by your plastic surgeon to remove excess fat – making for a tighter abdomen – while a suction pump or syringe is used in liposuction to vacuum fat away. The exact technique that Dr Scamp believes will be most suitable for you will be discussed in your consultation.
As you recover, you will be required to wear a waterproof dressing for the first five days post-surgery, as well as a support garment for two weeks. You should not attempt any strenuous activity during this time. Dr Scamp will create a tailored rehabilitation process taking into account the expected recovery times, as well as any other conditions that may affect how your body reacts.
Boob Job (Breast Augmentation, Lift and Mammoplasty)
There are a variety of procedures focusing on the breast that will transform the area by reducing fatty tissue, improving the appearance of the breasts either by lifting (Mastopexy) through an incision or a reduction (Mammoplasty) (2) that will bring your breasts into proportion with the rest of your body. In contrast, a breast augmentation will enhance the size of the breast with the insertion of an implant, restoring the volume of the breast following pregnancy.
Arranging for a consultation where you can discuss your desired outcome with Dr Scamp will help decide which of the procedures is right for you. As well as being led through all of the options open to you, ensuring that you are clear on what each type of surgery will entail, you will also be taken through the pain management and recovery process, where you will be advised of how long you should expect to take off work and any exercises that aid rehabilitation.
To arrange your consultation with Dr Terrence Scamp to discuss any of the above Mummy Makeover procedures, as well as any others such as a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) or the removal of a breast implant, call the surgery on (07) 5539 1000 or make an appointment online.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you have the option to seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner. Results may vary.
