Our Mastopexy (Breast Lift) Procedure
As a breast lift (mastopexy) involves surgery, a patient will go under a general anaesthetic for the procedure. Before going into surgery, Dr Terrence Scamp will mark where the incision lines will be, as discussed in the consultation.
Dr Terrence Scamp will make an incisions into the lower portion of the breasts. This will allow them to reshape the breast tissue and remove any excess skin. In addition, the nipples and areolae will be moved to a higher position on the breasts. If the patient has experienced areolae enlargement and stretching over time, a breast lift (mastopexy) will aim to reduce the size down again if desired.
The skin around the breasts will be tightened before the incisions are closed up with stitches. From start to finish, a breast lift (mastopexy) normally lasts around two hours.
After the patient wakes up from a breast lift (mastopexy), the incisions will be covered by a protective dressing that promotes healthy healing and prevents infection. It is normal to experience some swelling and discolouration after surgery, but this will gradually decrease over the next few weeks. It can also be common to have decreased breast sensation, but this will also correct itself naturally as the week’s progress. Pain relief can be issued to increase patient comfort post-surgery.

Dr Scamp, a qualified and accredited surgeon since 1992, began his career after completing his internship at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. His surgical training started in 1982, gaining experience in vascular, orthopaedic, neurosurgery, and general surgery. In 1986, he specialized in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Royal Brisbane Hospital, followed by further cosmetic surgery training at Princess Alexandra Hospital in 1987.
From 1988, Dr Scamp trained internationally for over three years in Scotland, Bristol, Harley Street London, Belgium, Slovenia, Germany, and the USA. He became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 1990 and joined the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) in 1992.
